Communities of Practice – The case of Swedish planning and the decision making process for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel

The planning process for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel in Sweden has been underway for more than 30 years. As a result of this long interaction, actors appear to have developed what is termed a “Communities of Practice” (CoP). This 2.5 year research project will examine the extent to which a CoP has emerged and its characteristics. The implications for planning theory, Environmental Impact Assessment theory, and decision-making in Sweden for the final disposal of nuclear fuel will be evaluated.
