Environmental Indicators for Eco Tourism Activities in Protected Areas, Nicaragua
Funded by Sida/Sarec
Eco tourism is a growing source of income to many countries in the World. A problem is to decide the possible impacts from the tourist activities. The need for determining the risks of over exploitation is laid down in some cases, because they might render the area in question a bad reputation if vegetation, the ground, water, etc. seems torn. To be able to follow an area over time to establish possible impact, there is a need for environmental indicators. The objectives of the present project is to identify potential environmental impacts from eco tourism in protected areas in Nicaragua, to develop environmental indicators for eco tourism activities in these areas, and to generate valid information about the environmental costs and benefits of eco tourism activities and their potential for sustainable management of protected areas.
