Molekylär ekologi och evolution
Molecular methods are increasingly used in ecology. This course provides an overview and in-depth knowledge on the implementation of molecular methods on ecological and evolutionary problems.
A range of methods will be used to detect and analyse genetic variation on different levels. The two disciplines population genetics and molecular biology will be integrated to study the dynamics of the evolutionary changes at a molecular level.
The course is based on practical learning, combining sampling and handling of environmental samples with the use of molecular markers, analysis of DNA-sequences and phylogenetical analyses.
The theoretical parts treat implementation of molecular methods, identification of species and individuals, phylogeography, population genetics and relationships between gene expression and ecosystem functions. The course also covers areas such as genetic variation, rate and patterns of nucleotide substitutions and genome evolution as well as phylogeny.
