Brief summary of the programme
The UNA–SLU PhD Programme is cooperation programme between the Nicaraguan National Agricultural University (UNA) and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). The programme is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The aim of the programme is to improve the research and teaching competence at UNA by giving UNA lecturers an opportunity to carry out research at UNA and get research training at SLU. This is done through a "sandwich programme" under the supervision of SLU and UNA supervisors. In the model of “sandwich programme” the participants take courses at SLU and carry out their field experiments at UNA. Data processing and writing is done partly at UNA and partly at SLU.
The UNA-SLU PhD programme is consist of research in key areas in Agronomy like Plant Breeding, Crop Protection, Animal Science, Soil Science and Forestry, and related areas such as ecotourism.
