Before you start
Before you use the confocal microscope for the first time, you must have an introduction.
To have an introduction please contact a person responsible for confocal microscope at your department:
BioCenter and Department of Plant Biology & Forest Genetics: Alyona Minina (alena.minina@slu.se, 0700405231)
Department of Food Science: Daniel Johansson (daniel.p.johansson@slu.se)
Department of Chemistry: Gulaim Seisenbaeva (Gulaim.Seisenbaeva@slu.se)
Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology: Fredrik Heyman (Fredrik.Heyman@slu.se)
Booking
The confocal room D-128 will be temporarily loked with usual key (ask for it the person responsible for confocal at your department or Alyona Minina). Later we will install the lock, which you'll be able to open with your BioCenter card.
Temporary booking calendar for the confocal is here
- select the tab with the week on the bottom of the spreadsheet
- book your time by typing in your name and department
- please mention if you are planning to use Ar laser and UV lamp, so that a person who used the microscope before you will leave them on for you. Otherwise you will need to wait for 30 minutes before switching them on again.
Booking calendar for the Graphics computer is here (under construction)
- book your time by typing in your name and department
- You can use it directly in the room D-128 or have a remote Desktop access to it from your computer in the office.
Server, where all pictures are stored is here (under construction, meanwhile please use DVD. You can find them in the confocal room. Please do not store your files on the confocal computer, it will slow down the software)
Hardware
Zeiss 780 Inverted Axio Observer with supersensitive GaASp detector
Onstage Incubator Temperature Module S1 with heating module (can only raise the temperature up to 60C above the temperature of the room)
To locate your sample:

Software ZEN2011
(we will get the ZEN 2012 soon)
You can install the software on your PC to edit pictures if your computer fits the minimal requirements:
4Gb RAM
64-bit Windows 7
You can find installation files, license files and the installation manual here (if you have no access to them, please contat alena.minina@slu.se)
Please note, to activate the full license you will need a dongle (ask for it the person who is responsible for the confocal at your department)
If your computer is not powerfull enough you can use the common Graphics computer (is under construction, will be available before Christmas).
| Available ZenModules |
Description |
|
|
Tiles/Positions
|
Module for automatic scanning of predefined sample areas, plus acquisition of images according to a position list. Supports focus correction maps, stitching and shading correction. Compatible with software autofocus.
|
|
|
Experiment Designer
|
Module for configuration of inhomogeneous acquisition experiments: time series, multitime series, Z-stacks, tiles/multiposition images and channels in any order. Depending on the ZEN application, the module is available in one out of two variants: as tool on the acquisition tab, or as MTS Experiments Macro.
