Assem joined the department in September 2011 as a postdoctoral fellow in the area of agricultural trade policy. He is also a lecturer of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Suez Canal University in Egypt. He received a PhD in Agricultural Economics in 2011 from Northwest A&F University in China.
Research area
His research interests revolve predominantly around international food and agricultural trade and trade policy, food consumption and production and their linkage with food security, and china’s economic and rural development. His work in recent years has focused on exporting the possibilities of evolving Egypt-China bilateral trade, with emphasis on agricultural sector. Capturing the economic and welfare impacts of Egypt’s partnership with EU has recently been a strong dimension in his research.

Assem worked previously as assistant lecturer at the College of Economics & Management at Northwest A&F University in China 2008-2011, and was also an assistant researcher at the Chinese Center for Agricultural Policy CCAP at the China Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
