Jens Fölster

Research interests

  • Revovery from acidification in surface water including trend test of chemical and biological data, development of acidification indicators and modelling of effects from confounding factors such as climate and organic matter.
  • Control of nutrients in surface water by deposition, soil leaching and climatic factors. The analysis includes trend tests and regression models.
  • Spatial and temporal variation in stream chemistry. The work includes modelling of small stream chemistry from downstream sites and development of a GIS based stream network for Sweden

Ongoing projects/other activities

  • Revision of the Environmental Quality Criteria for acidification.
  • Responsible for the execution of national environmental monitoring of water chemistry in lakes and streams.
  • Supporting The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency with development of new Ecological Quality Criteria and evaluation of Environmental Objectives.
  • Representing Sweden in ICP-Waters within UN-ECE.
  • Responsible for calculation and development of calculations of Critical loads for acidification in lakes for national reporting to ICP-Modelling and Mapping within UN-ECE.
