Research interests

  • Trophic interactions in aquatic food webs, in particular the role of long-chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids for invertebrate growth and reproduction
  • Bioavailability, mobility, and ecological effects of sediment-associated contaminants (primarily pesticides) in aquatic ecosystems
  • The use benthic invertebrates as indicators of environmental health/impact (e.g. acidification, eutrophication, pesticide use)
  • Ecosystem effects of invasive species, i.e. Dreissena polymorpha and Gonyostomum semen

Ongoing projects

  • Is ecological structure and function in Swedish agricultural streams impaired by pesticide contamination? – Research project funded by The Swedish Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS).
  • Liming effects on ecosystem structure, -function, and trophic relationships in lakes – Research project funded by the Swedish EPA.
  • Efficiency in trophic transfer across the plant-invertebrate interface - The importance of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Research project funded by The Swedish Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS) - In cooperation with Tobias Vrede, Uppsala University.
  • Biological effects of pesticides Research project financed by the Competence Centre for Chemical Pesticides.
  • Bioavailability of sediment-associated contaminants – The role of microbial exopolymers and humic coatings – Research project funded by The Swedish Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS).
  • Revision of Environmental Quality Criteria for benthic invertebrates – Monitoring and assessment project funded by the Swedish EPA.
