Vanadium in soils – chemistry and ecotoxicity

The aim of the project is to advance the knowledge on vanadium chemistry and ecotoxicity in soils to enable improved environmental risk assessments. Soils and model sorbents will be subjected to a detailed study regarding: sorption patterns of vanadium(IV) and vanadium(V), speciation of sorbed vanadium using X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and vanadium ecotoxicity. We will test the hypothesis that vanadium sorption and ecotoxicity are dependent on soil properties and that the former can be estimated using a geochemical model, which may be linked to information on toxicological effect concentrations.
