The Department of Forest Economics at SLU offers several postgraduate programs in economics and mathematical statistics that lead to the Licentiate or Doctoral degrees.
The licentiate degree program corresponds to two years full-time study (120 ECTS), consisting of course work (45 - 60 ECTS) and thesis work. The doctoral degree program corresponds to four years full-time study (240 ECTS), consisting of course work of 90 - 120 ECTs and thesis work. The licentiate degree program is constructed as one half of the doctoral degree program. After having obtained a Licentiate degree, a student can continue with the rest of the doctoral program and upon completion apply for a doctoral degree. Similarly, a doctoral student can apply for a Licentiate degree when she or he meets the requirements.
Qualification Requirements
Students who do not need financial assistance from the Department of Forest Economics can submit applications at any time around the year. The application should include: certificate of financial support, curriculum vitae, university transcripts, a preliminary research plan (1-2 pages) describing the proposed research area as well as a plan for how the research will be conducted, scientific writing (e.g. undergraduate thesis), and contact details of at least two references. Applicants whose native language is not English and who has an undergraduate degree from a university outside of Sweden are required to submit also a certificate of the result of an internationally recognized test in English (the minimum score required is 550 p for TOEFL or 6.0 for IELTS).
