Magnusson, Magnus

PhD-research
Main focus at present
• Studying spatiotemporal landscape changes and their consequences for forest species.
• Research on the ecology and distribution in the landscape of the model species grey-sided vole (Myodes rufocanus).
• Field work involving trapping of small mammals in forested protected areas of various size and connectivity in the counties of Västerbotten and Norrbotten.
• Analysis work focusing on historical aerial photos in a time series by applying different landscape metrics such as fragmentation and connectivity indices to explain changes in forest structure through time.
• Collaboration within the research group on network analysis of forest habitat patches for the grey-sided vole (M. rufocanus).
• Smaller pilot study on a second model species, the lungwort lichen (Lobaria pulmonaria) in protected areas and how it is affected by size and/or connectivity of forest patches.

Teaching
• Forest faunistic course at VFM, SLU (2010 and 2011). The small mammal part of the course.
• Conservation biology course at VFM, SLU (2010 and 2011). Topics: (1) Nature assessment methods including one excursion and (2) the Swedish forestry model.

Grants
• PhD-position financed by Oscar och Lilli Lamms minne between 10/2009-10/2013.
• Helge Axelsson Johnsons stiftelse: Pilot study on the importance of big/small reserves with high/low connectivity for the lungwort lichen (L. pulmonaria).
