My research interests include population biology and genetics of fungal pathogens and genetics of host plant resistance. I am particularly interested in the rust fungi and their interaction with the host plants. I did my PhD on the population genetics of the willow leaf rust fungus Melampsora larici-epitea.
I am currently working on identifying rust resistance genes in willow by QTL-mapping in the project “High and sustainable biomass production of Salix: bridging molecular genetics, ecophysiology and plant breeding”. The aim of the project is to develop molecular markers that can be used in marker assisted breeding of willow. I am also involved in a project on the population genetic structure of the Scots pine blister rust fungus, Cronartium flaccidum/Peridermium pini, and in a project on epidemiology and population biology of the stem rust fungus Puccinia graminis on oat.
