My interest is nature; interactions between the different elements and organisms in nature, with a special fascination for fungi. My PhD project is about ash dieback (askskottsjuka).
Ash dieback has in approximately 20 years spread and seriously affected ash forests in Europe, including Sweden since 2001-2003. The disease is caused by a fungus, Chalara fraxinea or Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus. The disease is recognized by dead shoots and wilting leaves, and in a later stage adventive shoots and cankers on stem and branches.
Goals are to describe the biology and lifecycle of the fungus, to learn about the interaction between fungus and tree and to understand the disease-breakout.
