Professor Daniel Mills is in the middle of his key note talk

The 7th Annual Animal Welfare Science Symposium took place in Uppsala on June 3-4, attracting 60 participants from five countries.

Prominent plenary speakers included Professor Daniel Mills from the University of Lincoln, UK, a specialist in clinical animal behaviour, and Professor Jean-Loup Rault from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, an ethologist researching the benefits of positive social behaviour in animals.

Helena Hansson, a professor at SLU, was also an invited speaker and shared insights from her interdisciplinary research in agricultural and food economics related to animal welfare.

The event featured engaging short talks from researchers and PhD students from Stockholm University, Linköping University, and SLU. Additionally, there was ample opportunity for scientific discussions focusing on animal welfare.

The award for the best presentation was given to Enya Van Poucke from Linköping University for her talk titled "Cognitive Effects of Naturalistic Environmental Enrichment on Commercially Hatched Laying Chicks."
