Rooting yards makes happier pigs and less leakage

In organic pig farming, the animals must have access to a range area. If it is complemented with a "rooting yard" it will provide optimal opportunities for the pigs to root even in the cold and sometimes frozen season.
This is shown in studies at SLU, where scientists at the Department for Rural Building and Animal Husbandry designed rooting yards that stimulate the pigs' activity during the winter.
