Call for funding from SLU Partnership Alnarp

Last changed: 22 September 2022

SLU Partnership Alnarp is a place where SLU, industry and society are brought together. Collaborations are to lead to high-quality research and development, while contributing to sustainable development for both business and society. For this purpose, funding has been allocated to staff at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science (LTV) and Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre at the Faculty of Forest Sciences (S).

Twice per year, funding is advertised for research and development programmes that fall under SLU Partnership Alnarp. It targets agriculture, horticulture and forestry and the final application dates are 15 February and 15 October each calendar year.

Project applications must be in line with the SLU Partnership Alnarp vision, purpose, prioritised development areas and comprehensive objectives. Examples of SLU Partnership Alnarp’s focus subject areas.

The nature and size of the projects vary, although funding is awarded to pilot projects to see whether the idea carries weight and can eventually lead to larger funding applications to research councils. Applications that enable additions to existing projects are also welcome, if they utilise synergies and create benefit for both researchers and partners. Projects involving externally employed doctoral students provide another interesting opportunity that can contribute to increasing value from a collaboration perspective. Reciprocal benefits for partners and academia are essential. Contract research cannot be financed via SLU Partnership Alnarp, as it requires full financing, and SLU requires publication of the results. The development of specific products is not financed. However, it may be possible to finance projects that include the early development stages if there are interesting research questions of scientific and general interest to society and other sectors.

Generally, projects receive SEK 100–200,000 per year over 1–2 years from SLU Partnership Alnarp, with partners matching this amount as a minimum. A maximum of SEK 275,000 per year over three years can be awarded, which applies to externally employed doctoral students. Partners must finance a minimum of 50% of the projects. Financing is to be cash or “in kind” in the form of working hours, analysist costs, equipment rental, etc., and contributions necessary for completing the project. Cash co-financing can increase the opportunities for prioritising the project as it contributes to guaranteeing research quality. The partner’s co-financing will then be greater than 50%, including “in kind” contributions. The research funding provided by SLU Partnership Alnarp can only be used by those active at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science, or the Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre.

A fact sheet with the project results must be published, and/or a downloadable project report published on SLU Partnership Alnarp’s website. Delayed publication may be possible. Presentations of project results, such as in newsletters or at conferences, must always state that the project was financed through SLU Partnership Alnarp. This is important for information purposes and to receive continuing support for activities at SLU and external operators. Intellectual property rights linked to projects initiated and financed through SLU Partnership Alnarp are the same as in other contexts at the university. The project leader must ensure that the project partners receive the results and publications from the study.

Staff at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science (LTV) and Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre at the Faculty of Forest Sciences (S) can apply for project funding. Applications are to be submitted in collaboration with one or more of SLU Partnership Alnarp’s partners.

Contact one of the Partnership’s subject group coordinators closest to your subject field. Alternatively, contact Håkan Schroeder, Operations Manager to discuss whether your project application is in line with the purpose behind the project funding and which criteria must be met. Ideally, this should take place as early as possible.
