Sports and other activities are given less and less space in densified urban developments, which in the long run affects public health. The positive medical benefits of sports are scientifically proven, and physical activity is an important factor in creating good health for more people. The Movium think tank and the Swedish Sports Confederation jointly produced a collection of five examples that highlight the role of sports and health-promoting activities in urban planning.

Physical activities in everyday life, and in one’s immediate environment, are important and physical activity must have a place in the development of urban environments. This project will contribute to developing knowledge about, and tools for, promoting opportunities for physical activity for everyone in urban environments based on principles of socially sustainable development, societal benefit, accessibility and security.

The project will produce an overview of the current state of knowledge and needs, which will be used to form a structure for a well-integrated and cohesive project with representatives from different fields of knowledge and participants from both academia and practice.
