The Swedish Centre for Animal Welfare (SCAW), is the national contact point for PARERE according to the Directive 2010/63/EU of 22 September 2010.
SCAW has identified the laboratories in Sweden that are suitably qualified to carry out validation studies (EU-NETVAL) according to the Directive and continues to support laboratories to become members of the group performing validation studies for the European commission. The contact point's main mission is to advise the Commission as to which alternative methods should be validated based on their potential to fulfil regulatory needs and acquire recognition. The Swedish Chemicals Agency, Medical Products Agency, National Food Agency, and others supply SCAW with necessary information that is forwarded to European Union Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing (EURL ECVAM).

The HERMES project aims to harmonize laboratory animal training in all EU Member States, which will make it easier for researchers and doctoral students to move within the EU. It can also increase the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. The HERMES project tests and validates a new model for experimental animal training in Europe.
