Johan Bröjer is a professor of equine internal medicine since 1 January 2021 . His installation lecture has the title: "Insulinresistens hos häst - en klinisk utmaning".

Johan Bröjer researches the disease complex equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) in horses. Horses with EMS have an altered response to the blood sugar regulating hormone insulin, a condition called insulin resistance. EMS is the most common cause of horses developing laminitis, a very painful inflammation of the hooves. Johan Bröjer investigates how EMS develops and how this disease can be diagnosed and treated.
