Behavior
The research conducted by SKANDULV also includes wolf behavioral studies, for example movement patterns, home range size, and whelping time.
GPS transmitters are an important tool for studying the movement patterns and behavior of wolves in different environments across various seasons and times of day. Pups fitted with collars (usually at 8-10 months of age) can be followed in detail when they leave their natal territory, providing insight into how far they travel before establishing their own territories and which areas they select during their movements. Wolves' movement patterns reveal the extent and size of territories as well as how they utilize these areas. Furthermore, the wolves' movements can also indicate the timing of reproduction during the spring, and help locate den sites.
