Lazaro is a PhD student taking a double degree in Landscape Architecture. His interest for research has brought him to SLU from Tanzania. Where the future will take him is still a secret.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your double degree as a PhD student in Landscape Arcitecture.
I am a PhD candidate under a double degree programme administered by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Ardhi University in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

My PhD research examines the use of an ecosystems services framework to integrate climate mitigation and adaption into the governance of peri-urban land in Tanzania. It is part of a large research and capacity building programme funded by the Swedish International Development Agency.

My research interests include climate change, natural resources management, ecosystem governance, and policy analysis. I hold a Master of Science in Natural Resources Assessment and Management from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Why did you want to do a PhD?
I wanted to do a PhD so that I can acquire research skills and be able to work as an independent researcher in the future.

What is your future plan and expectations with the project?
My future plan with the project is to do post-doctoral training and implement some of the practical insights I experienced to make a change in the society.

What do you most enjoy about being a PhD student?
I enjoy being a PhD student since I can work with research which I love. Be a part of this fantastic research environment is both a challenging and satisfying experience.
