SLU is a member university in the South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF), which is a strategic internationalization project running from 2017-2020 with the overall aim of strengthening ties between Sweden and South Africa in research, education and innovation.

SASUF is a collaboration between 37 universities in Sweden & South Africa together with embassies, civil society organisations, funding agencies & ministries in both countries.

SASUF has a budget of 22 000 000 SEK and is funded by STINT (Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education), the participating universities, the National Research Foundation and the Department of Higher Education & Training in South Africa.

SASUF Goes Digital

Many interesting workshops are scheduled for this fully virtually event19-23 September. We encourage you to sign up for the two workshops led by SLU researchers on Wednesday 21 September:

  • Translating the lessons we have learned from the Covid-19 era into the work of PhD studies and social justice considerations – Linley Chiwona-Karltun, 13:00 - 15:00 CEST
  • Research and education in spectal analysis and remote sensing in South Africa and Sweden – Erik Alexandersson, 14:00 - 15:00 CEST
SASUF Virtual Exchange Grants
These grants will open shortly during the period 23 September-29 November 2022 and aim to facilitate virtual exchange activities (such as courses, programmes, or projects). Amounts granted will range from 150 000-250 000 SEK. Attached are preliminary guidelines, but please see the homepage when the call opens. 
SASUF Research and Innovation Week, South Africa, 27-31 March
A call for workshops, sessions and satellite events will open during December 2022/January 2023. SLU aims to support a delegation, and further details on this will follow.

April-May 2023 – Call for seed funding applications will open

Final Research and Innovation Week will be held in Sweden in May 2024
