Emma Holmström

I am a docent in forestry sciences and I am also coordinator for the platform Future Forests. I try to divide my time equally on research, teaching and supervison and interactions with the forest sector and society.

Research topics and projects that I am involved:

• Modeling of forest production and site index.
• Establishment and management of mixed forest.
• Modeling the natural regeneration of birch; seed dispersal and forest
  management.
• Ungulate browsers impact on regeneration and forest management.
• Retention forestry, management in thinnings and clearfellings.

GIS in forest and landscape (SV0014)
This is an introduction to GIS with forestry, ecology and Green infrastructure -applications. We use ArcGIS Pro and R studio for the GIS exercises and the course language is English. It will be possible from 2o23 to do the course on distance and on half time. You can find the course on the SLU Education web

I am part of the Competence Centre TREES FOR ME, with focus on fast growing broadleaves.

I am part of the research program FRAS, which is a collaboration with Linneaus University and Skogforsk. 

I have been employed at the department as research assistant since 2007, working with projects in forest management and forest conservation biology, among them Ädellövskogsprogrammet that ended 2009.  Since 2007 I have also  been working with Snogeholm landskapslaboratorium, which is a joint long term project for forest and landscape management including all Swedish native tree species.
I made my PhD studies at the department between 2011-2015 and have continued with research and teaching at the department since then.

Supervision of master thesis

I supervise master thesis work with 2-3 students/year, mainly in the subjects of regeneration, mixed forest or management with increased biodiversity concerns.  You find all of them on Epsilon
