Erik Pelve

Erik Pelve joined the AFB in 2018 and works as a lecturer in biochemistry and as an assistant director of department studies. He works with teaching-related issues and educational training. His research is focused on microbial evolution and ecology in the gut flora, in order to answer the most fundamental biogeographic question: Which microorganisms are where and why.

Erik did his PhD in molecular evolution at Uppsala University and did his postdoc at MIT in the USA. He has taught lab courses at both a bachelor and the master's level, held distance education especially for teachers, and has supervised students at various levels.

Erik is very interested in science communication and how, above all, research students are trained in communication at different levels. In his spare time, Erik's foremost hobbies are role-playing, live action role-playing, board games and the culture that has evolved around the gaming world.
