Assessment and surveillance of animal welfare risks (WelRisk) is one of the world's leading competence centres for the development of practically applicable methods in the area of animal welfare risk assessment and surveillance. Our work covers all parts of the chain from research to practice. The aim is to estimate animal welfare risks accurately, to increase the efficiency of animal welfare control, and to optimize animal welfare surveillance systems. In this way, limited resources are allocated in the best possible way.

We are committed to:

  • Developing methods to assess risks of impaired animal health and welfare
  • Identifying, making available and using different sources of information (e.g. slaughter and animal welfare control databases)
  • Finding ways to evaluate and compare the capacity of different systems for the surveillance and control of animal health and welfare.
