At the Section of Applied Genetics, we are working with livestock breeding. Pigs, dogs, cows, horses, sheep - there are many different kind of domestic animals to take care of.

With a wise breeding program, health and welfare can be improved and performance and production can increase.

In our research, we develop the knowledge needed to build such breeding programs. We study how traits are inherited, how different traits are related gentically and what weight different traits should have in the breeding work.

We run experiments on Lövsta research centre and perform studies based on data from various organisations. We are also performing field trials on commercial farms. The contact with industry and other stakeholders is very important to us. Our teaching is about breeding sustainable use of domestic animals.
