Integrated Ecosystem Analyses

Last changed: 08 March 2017

How has the structure of Baltic Sea food-webs changed the last four decades? What human activities and environmental factors have affected the structure of coastal and offshore food-webs? Are there common causes across Baltic Sea basins or trophic levels?

We address these questions by integrated analyses of long-term international monitoring data, ranging from primary producers to top-predators, and including effects of fishing, nutrient loading and climate change. The aim is to improve advice for ecosystem-based management in the Baltic Sea.

The work involves both research projects and annual advice on ecosystem trends and -changes within the ICES/HELCOM working group on Integrated Assessments of the Baltic Sea, WGIAB, supporting for example the fisheries advice in the Baltic Sea.
