Cultivation of Spirulina – impact of light quality on biomass productivity

The specific aim with the present project is to investigate the impact of light quality, provided with LED light, on biomass productivity of Spirulina. This is an edible and protein-rich cyanobacteria which has been pointed out as a feed resource with high promise in future animal production. Furthermore, Spirulina has the potential to be produced in a low cost system due to its growth in high alkaline environment and easy harvest. The long-term goal is to develop a sustainable system for cultivation of Spirulina.
