Matching plant traits to climate – a modelling approach
The main goals of this subproject are to identify the most important traits for survival and productivity of Populus spp. in the Nordic-Baltic region. We will focus on this subset of traits and define the characteristics of the plant material necessary to ensure high productivity across the Nordic-Baltic region under current and future climates.
To meet these goals, we will develop a mathematical mechanistic model, describing poplar biomass growth as a function of climatic conditions and specific traits.
The model will link leaf-level traits to biomass accumulation, by combining a mechanistic description of the leaf-level activity, including temperature acclimation, with a simple plant resource allocation model.
