Would you like to work towards increased sustainability in fish farming?

Fish feed for farmed salmon has undergone significant improvements but still faces ongoing challenges regarding environmental sustainability. We are working to evaluate future protein sources for farmed rainbow trout and are looking for a motivated master's student for the fall 2025.
Currently, we are evaluating fungal protein grown on by-products from the forest industry as a feed ingredient. This is as part of a project called "Tree to Feed". As part of the project, you will work on a growth trial with rainbow trout. You will participate in the final sampling of the trial (fieldwork, approximately 4-5 days) and will work hands-on with fish at a research facility for fish farming in Jämtland. You will then focus on analysis work, evaluating growth and health effects on the fish, as well as assessing the impact of the feed material on pellet quality. The results will be compiled in your master's thesis and will benefit both researchers the company and, to some extent, the feed industry.
We are looking for you who finds this topic exciting. You are a student aiming to obtain a master's degree and the majority of the work will be carried out in Uppsala. To work with experimental animals, you must have completed or be able to complete an online course in animal science for research purposes.
We are a research group working within aquaculture with a focus on nutrition at the Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare.Would you like to know more?
