Cryptogams and Nature Conservation

The course Cryptogams and Nature Conservation supplies qualified knowledge on how, when and why cryptogams are used in nature conservation and environmental monitoring in Sweden. The course is unique in focusing on Cryptogams and their management.

Having completed the course the student should be able to:

  • Describe and explain how cryptogams are used in nature conservation and environmental monitoring.
  • Describe and explain how cryptogams are affected by agriculture and forestry as well as by various environmental changes as e.g. climate change.
  • Identify indicator species and red-listed cryptogam species.
  • Plan, perform and evaluate cryptogam inventories.

Lectures and excursions

Cryptogams and Nature Conservation is given by the Department of Ecology at SLU, Uppsala and comprises lectures, group projects, field practice, excursions and literature studies.
