PREPSOIL (‘Prepare the European Mission towards healthy soils’) aims to strengthen knowledge and awareness of soil health so that all types of land use (forestry, agriculture, urban and natural) can be managed sustainably.
PREPSOIL is part of the European Commission's mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’, which aims to establish 100 ‘living labs’ and ‘lighthouses’ across the EU, i.e. test beds and demonstration areas, with the aim of promoting sustainable land use and thus good soil health. The living labs and lighthouses will bring together different stakeholders such as researchers, landowners, policy makers and citizens to develop land use for different needs such as climate, environment, production and profitability.
A clear objective of PREPSOIL is to create spaces for dialogue between the target groups. The programme develops knowledge and tools to facilitate collaboration for sustainable land use with soil health in focus. SLU leads the programme's work related to:
- Forest soil opportunities and constraints for sustainable land use
- Strengthening national dialogue on soil health for forest and agricultural land, as well as urban and natural land
- Development and knowledge transfer for schools
- Identification of opportunities for living labs in a Swedish context
- Contribute to dialogue on soil health indicators together with European partners
