Project based advanced course at Dept. of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies
In this course, the student, in cooperation with the supervisor, identifies a suitable study question and accomplishes an individual project. Compulsory parts, such as literature studies, lectures, exercises, study visits or field studies may occur to varying extents. The student will present his/her work in a report that will be graded according to the introduction to the study question, formulation of the problem, description of the methods, data processing, conclusions, use of literature, linguistic usage, and conciseness. In addition, the student will present his/her work orally at a seminar. To get registered on the course, the student must have found a supervisor at the department and chosen a topic.

EnglishPrior knowledge
The equivalent to: 90 credits in Biology or Forest Science and English language proficiency demonstrated as:- English B (Swedish secondary school) or equivalent. Grade requirement: A minimum grade of Pass in the course above.
If the accomplishment of the course needs particular qualifications, specific courses can be requested.
Objectives
After completing the project work the student shall be able to:- use previously acquired knowledge in order to independently solve a problem
- formulate a study question, collect or use relevant data, and scientifically analyse and discuss the data
- write a report in a correct, well structured and interesting way, and present the results orally.
Content
To be registered for the course, the student shall, in cooperation with the supervisor, identify a suitable topic and submit a brief study plan to the course convener. The workload must be adjusted to the given time frame of the project work. The student will work independently, with support from the supervisor. Compulsory parts, such as lectures, exercises, study visits, field studies and/or literature studies may occur depending on the character of the problem chosen. The student has access to library, computers and the special equipment required for solving the problem. Work in the field, laboratory or other activity that might involve risk, requires that safety instructions are formulated. The student will account for his/her work in a report that will be graded according to introduction to the problem, description of method, data processing, discussion and conclusions, use of literature, linguistic usage, and the extent of irrelevant text, among others. Besides this the student will present for his/her work orally at a seminar.Formats and requirements for examination
The examination consists of:1. Oral presentation of the results at a seminar.
2. Written scientific report. Approved demands according to above. The examiner will approve the report when it corresponds to the demands of scientific quality and text processing.
- If the student fails a test, the examiner may give the student a supplementary assignment, provided this is possible and there is reason to do so.
- If the student has been granted special educational support because of a disability, the examiner has the right to offer the student an adapted test, or provide an alternative assessment.
- If changes are made to this course syllabus, or if the course is closed, SLU shall decide on transitional rules for examination of students admitted under this syllabus but who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline. For more information on this, please refer to the regulations for education at Bachelor's and Master's level.
