Välkomna till kursen Fiskevård!
Kursen ges på distans och på kvartsfart (25%) genom hela höstterminen och har två obligatoriska kursträffar i Umeå (helgerna: 26-27 september och 16-17 januari). Vi träffas i rummet ”Laxen” som du hittar på 5:e våning inom SLU byggnad på Campus i Umeå. Kursens preliminära schema hittar du i Canvas. Kursen/terminen startar 31 augusti med självstudier av inspelade lektioner, kurslitteraturen ”Fiskevård - för friskare fiskbestånd i friska vatten" (Redaktörer Degerman & Näslund; förlag Sportfiskarna), samt olika faktablad mm. Mer information kommer i samband med kursstart, dvs 2020-08-31. Information från biblioteket för distansstudenter: https://www.slu.se/site/bibliotek/anvanda-biblioteket/distansstud/ I nuläget utgår SLU ifrån att undervisningen kommer återgå till vanliga rutiner under höstterminen. Detta betyder att vi utgår ifrån att de två planerade kursträffar kommer ges i Umeå som planerat. Om det även i höst blir en rekommendation för distansundervisning, så kommer ges de två kursträffar på samma tid enligt schemat, men kommer vara online istället för träffar på plats. Vi återkommer i så fall hur vi löser exkursionsdelen.

The course gives an overview of fisheries management in theory and practice with a special focus on lakes and rivers.
After finalising the course the student will be able to:
Give a basic overview of threats/problems regarding Swedish fresh water fish, and discuss suitable solutions.
Show practical skills in monitoring methods relevant for fisheries management in Sweden, e.g electrofishing and gillnetfishing.
Do basic interpretation of test-fishing data to estimate status of fish stocks.
Content
The course gives an overview of threats to fish habitats, fisheries management in theory and practice, aquaculture of fish and crayfish for release in the wild and management of fish management areas. The course have a Swedish perspective and focus on threats and management of salmonids including restoration of migration routes and hatching sites. An overview of fish sampling in lakes and rivers, migration biology and telemetri and an introduction to analysis tool e.g. GIS is also given. The course includes excursions to highlight fisheries management actions in lakes and streams. The excursions are compulsory.

Written exam, oral and written assignments and attendance on compulsory activities.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.

Grading criteria
Kursen ger en översikt om teoretisk och praktisk fiskevård i framförallt sjöar och vattendrag.
Efter avslutad kurs ska studenten kunna:
- redogöra för aktuella hot/problem gällande svensk sötvattensfisk, samt diskutera lämpliga åtgärder.
- visa på insikt i provtagningsmetoder relevanta för svensk fiskevård.
- kunna göra grundläggande tolkning av provtagningsdata för att bedöma statusen hos fiskbestånd.
Examination och Fordringar för godkänd kurs:
Godkänd skriftlig tentamen, godkänd muntlig och skriftlig redovisning av eget arbete samt godkänt deltagande i obligatoriska moment.
