The Horticultural firm
The course focuses on the preparation of business plans, basic business administration with application in the horticultural firm and strategies for sustainable entrepreneurship:
organization and leadership
financial management, liquidity planning, cost and revenue analysis, product calculation and pricing, investment calculation and financing
-external accounting, closing and taxation
- legal concepts and regulations in a business context with focus on contractual agreements.
Scheduled exercises, seminars and study visits are compulsory.

Välkommen till kursen Trädgårdsföretaget!
Kursen startar tisdagen den 2 november då vi börjar med en kursintroduktion klockan 10.15 i Crafoord. Klockan 13.15 fortsätter dagen med grundläggande företagsekonomi. Schema för kursen hittar ni på kurshemsidan och på lärplattformen Canvas. Observera att kursen hålls på campus Alnarp och att det inte är möjligt att delta i kursen på distans. Utgångsläget är alltså att undervisningen sker på plats i Alnarp med reservation för hastiga ändringar p.g.a. pandemins utveckling. Det kommer dock att vara möjligt att i viss utsträckning följa undervisning via zoom, beroende på momentets art och hur det praktiskt är genomförbart för respektive lärare eller gästföreläsare.
Jag, som är kursledare, heter Boel Rönnblom och är lärare i marknadsföring och företagsekonomi på institutionen för Människa och Samhälle(IMS). Mitt rum finns på 4:e våningen på slottet och jag kan nås på email boel.ronnblom@slu.se.

Objectives
The aim of the course is to give an understanding for entrepreneurship and management within the green sector, with a special focus on firms in horticulture industry. The course provides the students with knowledge for basic business administration, management and financial control.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
establish and assess a business plan based on a business idea, a market-oriented approach, basic strategic perspectives, and business models
describe, explain and apply different tools within financial control; product calculation, investment calculation, financial accounting, liquidity budget and economic key figures.
give an account of and apply basic theories of leadership and organizational theory, with a focus on how groups function.
know and explain basic business law concepts and rules with emphasis on contractual agreements.

Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Approved written and oral assignments and attendance at compulsory course elements are required to pass the course.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
