Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:- explain how sitautions where humans and animals interacts occur and critically analyse these,
- account on how humans affect animals through handling and other interactions,
- account for animal learning and how the learning ability is affected by real life situations,
- discuss and critically evaluate human attitudes to animals and what consequencses these may have for both animals and humans,
- supported by scientific papers investigate real life cases within ethology and Anthrozoology and present these in writing and orally.
Content
The course gives an overview of the physiological and social effects of human-animal interactions. The course is built up by base group meetings according to PBL (Problem Based Learning) where the students discuss and account for human attitudes to animas, humans’ and animals’ social ability and how we humans communicate with animals. Students select and work with real life cases. The course contains lectures and exercises concerning how animals are affected by handling, how animals learn and how humans affect animal learning. The course deals with zoo, experimental, farm, fur and sports animals as well as pets. The students investigate real life cases within ethology and anthrozoology as projects focusing on casuses and background.Within the course students train the following generic competences: written and oral communication, analysis, problem solving and critical thinking.
Compulsory modules are within e.g. exercises, study visits, seminars, projects and PBL-meetings.
Formats and requirements for examination
Passed written and oral examination, passed participation in compulsory course modules.- If the student fails a test, the examiner may give the student a supplementary assignment, provided this is possible and there is reason to do so.
- If the student has been granted special educational support because of a disability, the examiner has the right to offer the student an adapted test, or provide an alternative assessment.
- If changes are made to this course syllabus, or if the course is closed, SLU shall decide on transitional rules for examination of students admitted under this syllabus but who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline. For more information on this, please refer to the regulations for education at Bachelor's and Master's level.

Grading criteria
För godkänt (betyg 3) på kursen krävs:
- Godkänd närvaro på obligatoriska moment (basgruppsmöten, vetenskapliga seminarium, muntlig redovisning)
- Godkänd övning hantering och inlärning
- Godkänd bokgranskning
- Godkänd examinationsuppgift
För betyg 4 på kursen krävs:
- Se betyg 3
- Betyg 4 på examinationsuppgift
För betyg 5 på kursen krävs:
- Se betyg 3 och 4
- Betyg 5 på examinationsuppgift
Betygsbedömning examinationsuppgift:
För betyg 3: Ska du skriva din rapport utifrån instruktionerna i studiehandledningen. Du ska även referera till minst fyra vetenskapliga artiklar till varje situation, dessa ska innehålla forskning som ger kunskap om situationen du valt och de ska vara relevanta för din utredning.
För betyg 4: Utöver betyg 3 krävs att du refererar till minst fem relevanta vetenskapliga artiklar till varje situation. Du ska även diskutera orsakerna bakom varje situation, styrk diskussion med vetenskapliga artiklar. OBS! för betyg högre än 3 måste en fullständig examinationsuppgift vara inlämnad senast den 23:e mars 2022 kl. 23.59.
För betyg 5: Utöver betyg 4 krävs att du referera till minst sex relevanta vetenskapliga artiklar till varje situation. Du ska även diskutera vad konsekvenserna kan bli för djur och människa, samt vilka konsekvenser det kan få på generell/samhällelig nivå, styrk din diskussion med vetenskapliga artiklar.
Vid underkänd examinationsuppgift ges två alternativ:
a) Du får komplettera ditt befintliga svar men kan då inte nå ett högre betyg än det som du nästan uppnått (t.ex. om du klarat nivå 4 men inte nivå 3 (godkänd-nivån) första gången kan du komplettera nivå 3 så att du får betyg 4). b) Du får skriva en helt ny examinationsuppgift.
