Biology of lactation

The aim of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge of factors that affect milk production and interactions

between reproduction, nutrition, behavior and lactation, including effects of lactation on the lactating animal.

Information from the course leader

Dear Biology of Lactation students,

very welcome to the wonderful world of lactation and a flipped classroom experience. This course is designed as a flipped classroom course, which works really well for digital learning environments. If you never heard about flipped classroom you can have a look at this short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdKzSq_t8k8.

I have just uploaded the course schedule (timetable) but that only shows times when we will meet. All other studying in this course can be done where and when you choose, it is only for some group work you will need to plan with other students. A study guide with suggested learning activities will be provided in Canvas when the course starts. If you keep up with the study guide you will spend more time with recorded lectures and course literature early in the course and more time on a literature assignment in the end of the course.

There are only two types of activities where we will meet physically:

1. On the first course day we offer an anatomy session, with wet dissections of udder tissue. This is very relevant for the course and I encourage all of you to come. No prior experience of dissections is required but for those of you who have done it before, it will be fun to be back in the anatomy theatre and dissection rooms.

2. The course has group discussions and you can participate in them via Zoom or physically on Campus.

Final examination

The final exam is an individual open book exam that you can do from any computer. The date for the exam will not change, other time slots may be moved before the course starts, if necessary.

Best regards from

Sigrid (course leader and examiner)
