Landscape Design - material and construction
Course contain partly basic plant knowledge parts and partly studies and exercises where plant knowledge are tested and developed with respect to planting design and plant composition. The plant knowledge is concentrated to the woody plants’ winter appearance, trading sizes and site preferences. The course includes design and construction processes and links therefore to the previous landscape construction course. The knowledge of the individual plants’ properties and needs are largely taught outdoors and are thereafter applied in project form as well as in other planting design and plant composition elements. Other components that are treated in the course are design of structural soils and ecosystem services in the urban environment.
Seminars, field trips, exercises and project work are compulsory.
The course gives 10 skills training credits.
Information from the course leader

Courses corresponding to 60 credits in landscape architecture or landscape planningObjectives
The course aims to give the student knowledge and skills in plant knowledge and vegetation design, fields that are fundamental in design, construction, maintenance and the development of plant environments.
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
identify and name a basic range of evergreen woody plants or deciduous woody plants on bare twigs
make aware choices of plant material, plant soil and planting beds with a focus on site tolerance, trading sizes, growing zones, function and maintenance and be able to argue for and justify these choices
through computer-aided design (CAD) develop a design proposal into technical drawings and specifications with plants and planting beds
reflect on the process of landscape design and construction
