Basic course - agronomist soil/plant
The lectures of the course, exercises, study visits, field trips and study tours treat
biological and geological natural resources, their occurrence and how they are used to generate goods and employments, with focus on agriculture and annual cycles

On field trips, natural environments are visited to increase the knowledge of geological relations and about the use and the administration of natural resources in Sweden. To give insight in possible future professional role, study visits at some workplaces are also made. Compulsory components are study visits, field trips, study tours and some exercises.

The aim of the course is to give an introduction to the education and the professional role and an understanding of the crop production importance in the society. Furthermore, the course should give a general understanding of the geological relations and processes that shape the landscape and knowledge of the occurrence and renewal in the landscape of the water. The aim is also to introduce to higher education and give training in written and oral presentation.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
describe at a general level use of natural resources, with focus on agriculture and animal husbandry, and their importance in the society in all at a general level joint
describe at a general level the crop production in relation to the social progress and the importance for the cultural landscape and the environment
identify certain species of crops and weed
account for the geological structure of the landscape and development
describe the occurrence and renewal of the water in the landscape
account for basic concepts and processes within geology and hydrology
identify those in Sweden most commonly occurring soil types, minerals and rocks
carry out simple hydrological calculations
describe at a general level the soil as system and its function as habitat
know and use certain mathematical tools that are commonly occurring within the natural sciences
search, critically review and discuss scientific literature in speech and writing.

Passed tests
Thesis: Passed written and oral presentation
Approved participation in field trips, exercises and other compulsory components
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
