Basic knowledge in chemical biology and molecular sciences.
After completing the course the student shall be able to
-Discuss and argue on the current trends and approaches in chemical biology and molecular sciences.
-Propose innovative multidisciplinary research
-Avoid common mistakes in writing research proposals.
The course encompasses two cross-linked modules. The first module includes eleven lectures on the cutting-edge theory and methods in chemical biology, with the emphasis on enzyme structure and function, delivered by world leading researchers. Each lecture is followed by a round-table discussion with students. The new knowledge the students get through the first module shall inspire them to advance their own areas of research by implementing innovative methodology and approaches they have learned. Thus, during the second module of the course students will formulate and "sell" their novel research ideas in a form of a brief research proposal. The written proposals will be evaluated for quality and impact. This will improve students’ skills in preparing grant applications, a key quality of a successful researcher.
Formats and requirements for examination
Submission of own research proposal. Besides, students are expected to take active part in discussions after each lecture.
PhD-students and postdocs from SLU and other Swedish Universities are welcome to register for this course, although the SLU PhD-students will be given priority.
