Admitted to a postgraduate program in animal science, biology, veterinary medicine, food science, nutrition, nursing, or related subjects, or to a residency program in veterinary science
Objectives
After completing the course the student shall be able to describe the basic components of flow cytometers and confocal laser scanning microscopes and how they work together. The student shall be able to interpret data output from the specialized software for flow cytometry. The student shall be able to describe the principles of cell sorting. The student shall be able do design a basic panel of fluorophores for use in flow cytometry experiments. The student shall be able to apply flow cytometry to his/her research subject.
Content
The first week of the course contains lectures before lunch each day, while the afternoons are devoted to practical laboratory work. If possible, a study visit to the BioVis Facility at Uppsala University is arranged. The final two weeks of the course, the students perform individual work with applying flow cytometry to their own projects.
