Prior knowledge

Knowledge equivalent to 120 credits at basic level including

- 60 credits Forest Sciences or

- 60 credits in Forest management or

- 60 credits in Biology .

- 7 credits in GIT or GIS

and

- English 6.

Objectives

The aim of the course is to give the student advanced knowledge and hands-on experiences in spatial analyses and modelling to handle issues of forestry and the forest ecosystem and how the precision in input influences the results of analyses and models. Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

• carry out an advanced GIT-project.

• recognise problems associated with the precision in spatial data.

• communicate project work both orally and in writing, for a GIT-expert.

Content

In this course, the student carries out an own project. The student is taught how to break down a problem and how one structures the work in project form and then carry out the project and complete it with a report and a presentation During the course will the student need to read articles within related fields and discuss these in small groups with other students. Focus is on accuracy in spatial data and how these influence analyses and models. Carring out the project and the presentation of the project as well as the seminars are compulsory.

Grading form

The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.

Formats and requirements for examination

Passing the course requires:

• Participation in compulsory parts

• Completed project work and passed oral presentation

• Passed written project report

• If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.

• The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.

• If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.

• For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

• The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.

Additional information

The course GIT I7,5 credits (SG0121) at SLU gives sufficient prior knowledge about GIT. Basic knowledge of inventory and statistics are desirable but no absolute requirement.
