Basic mathematics and statistics for biologists

As an agronomist or biologist, you may encounter random phenomena, e.g. measurement uncertainty. In this course, you will get an introduction to how mathematical models may be employed to draw conclusions from collected data and model dynamical processes in nature.
In this course, you work in the mathematics module with a particular form of equations, differential equations, which are suitable for modelling e.g. time-dependent processes. In the statistics module, some basic statistical terminology and common methods are presented. In regression analysis, you will get an introduction to statistical methodology for investigation of possible relationships between variables.
When working with data in practice, it is important to choose a proper method for a given problem, judge the result from the analysis and draw proper conclusions. In this course, you will work with questions related to data analysis in computer sessions where modern statistical software is used.

Grading criteria
