Certifying my documents

Last changed: 19 December 2018

The copies that are sent to SLU for evaluation of the eligibility for doctoral education must be certified.

For foreign academic merits

You should never submit original documents. Original documents will not be returned. All copies of original documents must be clearly certified as true copies of the original by the issuing institution or a notary public. Irrespective of language in the document, a Swedish notary public can serve you with certified copies if you bring the original documents in person. The admission office at Ultuna can certify your copies if you bring the original documents in person. Please write to antagning@slu.se (mark the email with “Certification needed”) and ask for an appointment.

Certified copies must be copies of original documents. Copies of copies will not be accepted.

In order to certify document copies, you must present both the original and copy of the document to the person carrying out the certification. Each copy must be certified separately and clearly indicate:

  • the signature of the certifying officer
  • the stamp of the issuing institution or notary public
  • the name and address or provider/registration number (where applicable) of the certifying officer. This must be printed legibly (able to read) below the signature or in the stamp. It must be possible for University Admissions in Sweden SLU to contact the certifying officer if necessary. A stamp stating only "True copy certified" will not be accepted.

Please observe that:

  • You must submit a copy of your documents in the original language. If your documents are in a language other than Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, English, French or German, you must also provide a translation. This translation should be in one of the following languages: Swedish, English, French or German.
  • If your degree was awarded in Cameroon, Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, or the USA, your transcript of record must be sent directly from your university to the SLU Registrar and referring to the reference number in the advert. If you send it yourself, it will not be accepted.
  • Certain countries have specific requirements. Please see specific requirements for your country at www.universityadmissions.se for more information.

For specific information about the verification process, please contact: Ylva Lönnerholm; antagning@slu.se

For Swedish academic merits

If you have academic merits from a Swedish university we will have to verify your merits through either the Swedish national admission system or through certified copies. If your academic credits isn't available in the national admission system (for example merits finished before 2007) we require certified copies. If you are in Sweden and have your documents with you, you may follow the instructions below.

A certification of documents implies that a person must certify that the copy corresponds to the original and that there are no differences between them. A person who has seen both the original document and the copy certifies the copy through writing his or her name, phone number and signature on the copy, so that SLU can contact him/her if needed..

Please note that:

  • Each copied page must be clearly certified separately. Please note that SLU must be able contact the person who has certified the copy if needed.
  • A stamp stating only "True copy certified" will not be accepted.
  • Copies of copies will not be accepted
  • You must submit a copy of your documents in the original language. If your documents are in a language other than Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, English, French or German, you must also provide a translation. This translation should be in one of the following languages: Swedish, English, French or German
