Webinar: CRISPR – gene technology that rebuilds the world

CRISPR – gene technology that rebuilds the world

Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna have discovered one of gene technology’s sharpest tools: the CRISPR/Cas9 genetic scissors. Using these, researchers can change the DNA of animals, plants and microorganisms with extremely high precision. This technology has had a revolutionary impact on the life sciences, is contributing to new cancer therapies and may make the dream of curing inherited diseases come true. Charpentier and Doudna have been awarded with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2020.

To celebrate this award and learn more about the CRISPR technology the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics have invited science journalist Torill Kornfeldt to give a popular science seminar on the Nobel Day 10 Dec at 10.30 – 11.30.

You are all welcome!

The seminar will be held on Zoom and will be in English.

There will be possibilities to ask questions after the presentation.

Torill Kornfeldt will tell us more about how CRISPR works and about present and future applications. Torill Kornfeldt has met scientists around the world to learn more about CRISPR and how it can be used, both to bring back extinct species such as the wooly mammoth, to genetically engineer chimpanzees so that they develop Alzheimers disease and to potentially cure genetic diseases in humans. She has published two books, “The re-origin of species – a second chance for extinct animals” and “Människan i provröret” (“Humans in test tubes”, not translated into English yet).
