Ruralities and Regions in Transition: A conference for rural and regional researchers in Sweden

conferences |

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), together with Nordregio, has the pleasure of inviting researchers to the second edition of Ruralities and Regions in Transition – a conference where scholars can share experiences, build networks and jointly rethink and work towards a sustainable rural Sweden.

Rural areas are central to the complex societal challenges of our time. Climate change mitigation and adaptation require radical changes in land use, energy- and food systems. Future paths in forestry and agriculture are contested, and challenges in maintaining social welfare, human resources, and commercial and public services are evident in many parts of Sweden. Through this conference, we want to shed light on how we can face these challenges, and many more, in local and regional contexts.

We invite contributions from different disciplines working with rural and regional questions and theoretical, methodological and empirical insights that can contribute to conceptualizing Swedish regional and rural development in these new times.
