Sophie Brouwer

Sophie Brouwer
PhD student in the Resistance Unit of the Department of Plant Protection Biology. My PhD project revolves around the interactions of Alternaria solani, the causal agent of potato early blight, and Phytophthora infestans, the causal agent of potato late blight, with Solanum tuberosum (potato).

My research project consists of 4 projects:

1. The importance in the phytohormones Salicylic Acid (SA) and Jasmonic Acid (JA) in the defence against the early blight pathogen A.solani

2. Interactions and competition between the late blight pathogen P. infestans and the early blight pathogen A. solani  during the infection of potato

3. The role of the potato ionome during infection with the late blight pathogen P. infestans

4. Transcriptomics study of potato plants with varying levels of  A. solani susceptibility

Master in Biological Sciences from the University of Amsterdam

Master theses work on:

-Interactions of the Solanum pimpinellifolium receptor-like protein Cf-2 with the cysteine proteases Rcr3 and the Cladosporium fulvum effector Avr2 (University of Oxford).

-The role of in planta upregulated Transcription Factors in the virulence of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici and
F.oxysporum f.sp. melonis (University of Amsterdam)
