The ”organic trend” is still strong, but most important is that the food and drink is Swedish, shows a consumer survey commissioned by the The Swedish Food Federation.

Demoskop made the consumer survey with 1023 interviews. It appeared that:
• 85 percent of Swedes think it is important that their food and drink is of Swedish origin
• 52 percent choose organic when food shopping

The most common reason for choosing Swedish is that people think it is good for the environment and the climate. If the consumers are forced to choose between an imported organic food and a Swedish conventional, 72 percent select the conventionally produced Swedish foodstuff.

Of those who buy organic, 50 percent say that they do it to make it better for the environment and the climate, 26 percent because it's "healthier".

There were also differences between women and men, between city and countryside, as well as between different age groups.
