SLU student receives prestigious prize in Stockholm

Master student Hernán Dario Capador Barreto has recieved The Global Swede Award from Ann Linde, Minister for EU Affairs and Trade. The award is a sign of Sweden’s appreciation of our international students, and meant to inspire the students to act as ambassadors in the relations between their countries and Sweden.

On Wednesday May 10th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Swedish Institute, arranged a ceremony in The Hereditary Prince's Palace to honor distinguished foreign students at Swedish universities.

A prize to strengthen international cooperation and trade

The prize, The Global Swede Award, is part of a long term vision to strengthen the relations with the community of international students receiving education in Sweden. The aim is to create networks to strengthen international cooperation and trade. The alumni network Global Swede is part of a bigger network administered by the Swedish Institute consisting of more than 13 000 people from 140 countries.

An award cermony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

All Swedish universities had the opportunity to nominate a student, and from SLU was Hernán Dario Capador Barreto, master student in plant biology, chosen. Hernán received the award at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Ann Linde, Minister for EU Affairs and Trade, in the presence of representatives from several Swedish universities, the Director-General of the Swedish Institute Annika Rembe and the ambassadors of the involved countries. The award is a sign of Sweden’s appreciation of our international students, and meant to inspire the students to act as ambassadors in the relations between their countries and Sweden.

The nomination text for Hernán:

Hernán Dario Capador Barreto is a MSc student in Plant Biology at SLU with exceptional social skills and study results. Hernán is working hard for fellow students and for SLU, and has also served as project manager on a European breeding course with students from all over the world. He has outstanding academic results, and his innovative master thesis have already yielded results important for the Swedish forest industry. Hernán is curious and ambitious with high capacity and is always close to a smile – a good example to other students and the best possible ambassador for plant biology, SLU and Sweden.
