SLU is an attractive destination for Kazakhstani students

Published: 19 November 2018

SLU is working to fulfil the vision of a doubled student number by 2027. One of the strategies is increase international mobility and enhance internationalisation.

To attract Kazakhstani students, SLU external collaboration specialist in food quality Galia Zamaratskaia visited two universities in Kazakhstan - Baitursynov’s Kostanay State University (KSU) and Seifullin’s Kazakh Agro Technical University (KATU). The aim of this visit was to inform the students about SLU’s educational programmes at advanced level, and inspire the students to choose SLU as a destination for higher education.

From 5th to 9th November 2018, Galia met students from KSU and KATU. She underlined that education at SLU provides knowledge on plant and animal sciences, and explores ways to maximise the utilisation of natural resources in sustainable way. During the meetings, many students expressed interest for starting their master's studies at SLU, especially in animal- and plan biology-related programmes. The master programme “Sustainable Food Systems” also attracted attention of the students.

– Study at SLU is definitely a good investment for future career of the students and even for future of Kazakhstan, says Niyazbek Kalimov, the dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Biology at KSU.

– Another benefit of internationalisation for SLU is that contact with international students enables us to see the world from new perspectives, says Galia Zamaratskaia.

We hope to welcome many of Kazakhstani students to SLU in the coming years! We believe that our teachers will provide all support to make it easier for the students to become a part of SLU.
